Back to Work

Well it is back to work today. I've had two weeks off but college for International students starts today, though I will be interested to see how many of the students turn up.

A train adventure every day

I work at the English college three afternoons each week, although today I had to do an extra class as a teacher did not attend. I go by train.

Holidays - yippee!!

Only four hours to work and I've got a break until January 4th 2010!

It's off to work I go

I'm working three days a week now - or 3 half days, but in reality it seems more like e full days, by the time I take in travel time and preparation time.

12% unemployment

Michigan has a 12% unemployment rate. The highest in the United States. While Michigan is third highest in Foreclosures.

It’s really bad up here economically. General Motors is close too declaring bankruptcy’s with a stock price that has not been seen since the early 1960’s…GM is around a dollar or so per share…I remember when GM was selling for around 75 dollars a share.

25,000 steps

A lot of the people I work will use pedometers to track home much walking they do each day. I though I would give it a try. Last week I average around 25,000 steps per shift and covered about 7 miles a day. We work 10 hour shifts. It was actually kind of fun…I never realized how much exercise I get each day at work.

Bail bondsmen

Bail bonds is a booming industry in the United States. We even have popular TV shows about bounty hunters chasing wanted people. While in other counties such as England and Canada Bail bonds are illegal.

Michigan is considering increasing the dropout age to 18

Michigan’s legislator is considering increasing the dropout age for high school students from 16 to 18. Students have been able to drop out at 16 since the 1800’s in Michigan.

Personally I think it would be wonderful too increase the dropout age too 18. Sixteen your old kids think they know everything some chose to dropout without even realizing the consequences that they will face latter in life. Not to mention the fact that most drop outs end up on some kind of government assistance.
