Canberra this week: The rush of the oncoming election is stripping the lustre from the two men who are already sparring for the leadership of Australia.
What did I do at 39 years? Interesting question. Children 14, 13,12 and 7 years. Two at secondary school. Me? Ah, I remember now!
Politics in Nigeria has been rightly described as a do or die affair. The manner in which the 1999, 2003 and 2007 political campaigns and elections were conducted justifies the above assertion.
Sarah Palin has been reported by some as mounting her bid for the Republican presidential nomination a long way out from the next election in 2012.
Well tomorrow is the big day for America. The long election campaign is over. Two very good candidates will have to wait for the "peoples voice". You all have your own thoughts and expectations, as we do down in New Zealand.
Despite the events of the last day or so, I would like to comment on the third US presidential debate of which I watched the last hour or so on Aljazerra television. I must be one of the few people in Lower Hutt, Wellington who watch this television channel, but my grandson tuned it in recently when he was tuning in other channels for me. Picture wasn't too clear but the sound was great.
It looks like it’s going to be John McCain as the republican nomination for President. I really don’t know what to think about this guy. I know he is a war hero shot down over Vietnam and was held as a POW.
I noticed that much was said during the US mid-term election campaign in TV and radio news items as well as in blogs about low voter turn out. This problem has also come to the fore in the UK in recent years at election after election there has been an ever-lowering percentage of those eligible to vote actually going and voting. At the moment it is about 42%. This is especially marked in local council elections. There has been hot debate over this issue and a number of both causes and solutions have been advanced.
