The Old Cook Book

Sounds like I am on a bit of a trip of nostalgia. I'm not really.

Thoughts about diet programs.

The post by 1chicagochick has inspired this post. I did comment on her blog entry that I am still one to cook for myself.

Cooking From Scratch is a Lost Art

I remember when I was a little girl and my grandmother would spend all day in the kitchen on Sunday, making dinner and dessert from scratch.

Remove That Odour!

Some tips:

1)To remove the strong odours of fish or garlic from your hands, rub a bit of lemon on them before washing it off with soap.

2)If your fridge smells of stale food, cut a few lemons and keep them in the fridge. In no time the smell will be gone.

Beware of tanning salons - you may get scorched, burnt and blistered...

A woman was scorched in a sunbed and left with burnt and blistered breasts and is cautioning others about usung tanning salons.

The woman required medical treatment for inflammation and spent many days in pain after only 15 minutes in a tanning session at the salon.

Cooking up a Storm

I've never really enjoyed cooking, probably because as the eldest of 12, I had to do it regularly when I was growing up. When I had my own children, I only ever cooked the evening meal; breakfast was something everyone got for themselves (and never cooked) and lunch was usually a sandwich and some fruit. The smells of baking never wafted from my home. Cakes and fancy stuff never interested my taste buds anyway.

Cooking with lavender

Jellen's post on herbs and haiku has inspired this. I have quite a lot of lavender growing and I've never used it for cooking. I knew it was used in flavoring of cakes or icing - or I thought so. So I did a Google, and found a wonderful site on Cooking with Lavender and I'm quite amazed.

What's for Dinner?

Now that it is just my husband and me at home, dinner is always a toss-up. Sometimes he cooks and sometimes I cook, but it has been easier since we went vegetarian. Tonight, it is eggplant parmasean, pasta, and fresh asparagus. If I were still feeding the family, I would have added garlic bread and a crisp green salad, but we don't eat that much food anymore.
