Name This Lovely Orchid! Can You Guess what Species It Is?

Did you guess right? Well, it's the Pink Lady's Slipper, which is the official flower of the state of Minnesota.

Here in Minnesota, it's exciting to happen upon this marvelous species of orchid. Once abundant, they are now rare.

The Pink Lady's Slipper is protected -- it is illegal to pick them in Minnesota.

I was thrilled to see these beauties cropping up in my driveway! It's like an honor!

.... and very good at your job. You naturally help people learn new things! That's so nice.

I guess a lot of people are obsessed by orchids. There are even professional "orchid hunters" who are dedicated to finding new species of this fascinating plant. They travel the globe, searching through rain forests and other remote location on their quest .... they even risk their lives sometimes ... I think there is a book called "The Orchid Hunter" which I mean to read some day.
