I Sell a Magazine Article

Yo to all my writer and BE friends:

Just got word that an article I submitted to FATE Magazine has been accepted -- I will get paid a whole $200. They pay 10 cents per word -- which is actualy good compared to some markets these days. FATE publishes paranormal type stories, which I like to write.

Although I make my living as a freelance writer -- mostly a ghostwriter -- I haven't been submitting much lately to magazines -- primarily because the pay is not overwhelming, and it can take months from the time of submission, to getting published, to getting paid.

In other words, you would have to crank out a lot of articles to make a living this way -- unless you get with some of the major magazines.

On the other hand, selling articles to magazine has always been so of the "holy grail" for most freelance writers -- there is still that mystique about getting published in "real" magazines, rather than just online, or something.

It also gives you some credibility -- as a ghostwriter, people always ask me, "Where have you published?" So I can tell them I have sold to FATE, Astronomy Magazine, Cat Fancy (yes, it was a story about my cat) Conservation Journal, and a bunch of others.

People who hire you to write stuff for them like to know you can make it in the real markets.

Anyway -- I'm a little roll -- I won $50 in an essay contest last month -- now I have to find a publisher for my "BIG" Ouija Book!!!!!! It's done!! I just want to find a great deal from a major publisher now.

Keep writing everyone -- we all make progress in this tough business now and then!!!!!!!!!

(Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut).

Good on you Ken...

Great news, Ken.

I'm not a bit surprised, though. Keep up the good work.
