Imagine my delight when I walked out my front door this morning, and not more than 20 feet away I spy two gigantic morel mushrooms, sprouting as pretty as you please right in front of me!
The morel is considered one of the finest tasting mushrooms in the world. If you ordered a plate of these at a haute causine restaurant, you'd pay caviar prices for this delicacy.
The great thing about the morel is that it that they are easy to identify. We all know that mushrooms can be deadly poison, and if you eat the wrong one -- well, you might wake up dead one day. But the morel's distinct, wrinkly look, honeycomb configuration is pretty obvious.
WARNING: THERE IS A SPECIES OF MOREL THAT IS POISONOUS. THEY LOOK SOMETHING LIKE THE TRUE MOREL -- SO DO NOT EAT UNLESS YOU ARE 100% CERTAIN AS TO THE SPECIES!!

The study of mushrooms is called mycology. There is a saying among mycologists: "There are old mycologists and bold mycologists, but there are no old, bold mycologists."
The mushroom pictured here has a cap about the size of a baseball! That's big for a morel!
After taking a few pictures -- I sliced up these beauties, sauted them in some butter along with a little garlic and salt -- and it was bon apetite!!!
