Here it is again - the Diprotodon

The diprotodon in the museum in Adelaide, South Australia

This is the beast - the Diprotodon - bones of which were found by Richard Ragless somewhere in South Australia early last century I think. My mother's maiden name was Ragless - and Richard I think was either her Uncle or great Uncle.

Our family visit the old bones from time to time - as it is quite a remarkable find. I understand many more Diprotodon bones have been found round the town of Burra, which is north of the city of Adelaide.

See - there are adventure genes in the family! Actually one Oliver Ragless many years ago travelled from Adelaide to the Gold Fields in Victoria - around Ballarat and Bendigo and has kept a diary. A historian, Maggie Ragless (and yes we are all connected by blood) published it, and she published quite a tome on the Ragless family.

It is not surprising that I have an interest in history, as my ancestors on my father's side first arrived in Adelaide on the good ship Buffalo, and settled in primitive circumstances near Glenelg, a seaside suburb of Adelaide. Eventually they moved to Middleton further along the coast, and settled there, and there are books about the Abbott family too. Strangely enough my husband's father's ancestors were also on the Buffalo and they spent some time in Glenelg before moving on to Victoria I think.

There are books about the Ragless, Abbott, and Broadbent families who were all connected in some way many eons ago.
