Hurricane Gustav - Heading for New Orleans?

Weather interests me and I track it in the news. Right now, I'm watching the path of what could become Hurricane Gustav in the Gulf of Mexico. Weather scientists predict landfall as a hurricane somewhere between the Florida peninsula and Texas, with New Orleans right in the middle. The strange thing is it's three years nearly to the day since Katrina struck.

Some stories of my house sitting experiences.

I have enjoyed most of my house sitting experiences. The reason I started house sitting was to get away from home - yes, run away I guess. Somewhere where no one knew me, no one could phone me - I seldom answered my mobile phone, and never gave ANYONE the landline number.

Some more Brain Buzz...

Did you know that eighty five per cent of people who took what they thought was an expensive new drug experienced pain relief; 61% of those who took a cheaper drug got relief. Actually all were given a placebo.

Some Brain Buzz...

Children whose mothers ate more than two weekly servings of low-mercury fish during pregnancy have better verbal, visual and motor development.

Merely anticipating a funny joke reduces levels of stress hormones in the blood by up to 70%.

Happy house-sitter...

Here's a story that Elly would appreciate. Its an email story from Reader's Digest.

Loren Sirl wrote that having read a recent story in dismay about somebody who had bad experiences,"Who's minding the House?" in the July issue, she stated she had house sat in many homes during the last seven years and had nothing but good experiences: wonderful homes and fantastic homeowners who had left her plenty of good food.

Working Away at My Daily 30

What a time to go on a diet -- right before fall holiday season. Last year I tried the low-carb diet and the vegan diet, both to my dissatisfaction. This time, I’m following the Ornish diet, which is pretty much vegetarian, but allows egg whites and non-fat dairy products. Having already learned about how to up fiber and decrease use of processed sugar and flour, I’m finding this new diet plan both healthful and much easier to follow than the others. But the one factor that’s never been easy for me is the exercise part. You could say I’ve never been athletic, although I’m not a couch potato either.

If I Were a Splogger

If I were a splogger, I'd certainly not take time to read this post. I'd just unload and run, deliver my load of copied posts and head off to the next free blog site and attempt the same. If I were a blogger, I'd be certain to never return to my posts to check for comments, and if by some chance I did return, I'd merely read but not respond -- if I were a splogger.

Sploggers are not welcome at BE!

It is great to see such a wonderful community here at Blogevolve, but from time to time unwelcome sploggers post here.

We've had "attacks" in the last week - and they are now gone. I now know that there is a facility in place to deal with these folk, and ask that anyone who notices any splog or unwanted material, just add a comment "sploggers not welcome here" and I have it on good authority that the splog will be disposed of.
